One of my favourite things to do is vintage shopping! So you can imagine my excitement when it came time to put this together.  With the exception of a broken apothecary jar (sorry Danielle); we were able to create a simple yet beautiful vintage set.  Of course, with our beautiful model Annalise, we couldn’t go wrong!

I could cry I love this shoot so much-and our model Cherise did an amazing job completing the wholesome, down-to-earth look and feel I was going for….

Did someone say paper lanterns were out?? I don’t know about you, but I personally think the lanterns really made this set pop! Of course, a bridal shoot isn’t complete without a beautiful bride. Pure sweetness is all I can say about Katrinna.  She fit this gorgeous gown like a glove and was just as excited (if not more), to be able to wear it….even after her shoot (hehehe)! She also happens to have created and designed all the accessories for the models! This lady is multi talented and I’m so blessed to have gotten to meet her!

Our months of planning, coordinating, brainstorming, stressing, anticipating; we finally got to see our vision come to life!

This was our first attempt at Stylized Bridal Shoots-with a total of 6 themes in 2 days;  suffice to say, I think it was a success (an exhausting success)! Of course, this doesn’t go without thanking all of the wonderful local vendors and models who volunteered their time, services and talents to help us with our final product.

Our model Xevv ROCKED this shoot! My love for peacocks, fashion and the color purple inspired this theme.  We had so much fun tying together the details of this set that I had a hard time taking it down.  Maybe I can do it again one day on a large scale!?

I may be speaking for myself here, but I would really love to leave the multi-colored spandex, side-clipped, tie-dyed t-shirts, and MC Hammer pants behind me, and forget that I ever thought I looked cool!

However, there is another thing that has refused to stay in the past-the MULLET! ???? (yes, I question this).

I get the “business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back” concept, really, it’s plausible….but stylish….no!  I don’t care if Chuck Norris sported it back in the day (*insert Chuck Norris joke here*), the mullet should have died in the 80′s with Culture Club!

Unless we are talking about the classic (what I call the mullet car) the AL CAMINO-now there’s where you can REALLY have a party in the back!!

Now here’s where I had a slight problem.

Wedding dresses. Mullet. Wedding. Dresses.

Yes, I know Guns n’ Roses featured one in their “November Rain” video…but do we have to subject ourselves to this “identity crisis” of a dress, again?

The answer is yes.  Why? Because we’ve made it better!

I fell in love with them at first sight about a year ago while looking for bouquet alternatives.  Not only are they unbelievably cool, they are absolutely stunning to look at!

Some of the great pros to these bouquets (besides beauty) are:

  • Sentimental heirloom brooches can be incorporated (there’s your something old)
  • The use of up-cycled brooches make it an eco-friendly choice
  • Although pricier than the traditional floral bouquet, these will last forever and ever and can be incorporated into your home decor, or passed on to the next generation (essentially becoming an heirloom itself)
  • Are a unique detail to your wedding and/or bridal party
  • Silk flowers can be easily incorporated for a softer, less “heavy” look.
Pretty pink with brooch details-can you say garden wedding?

Since I will not be in attendance for the Diamond Jubilee festivities (only because my invitation was somehow lost in the mail), I will be glueing my eyes to my television and imagine I am waving flags and “mosh pitting” my way through the crowds to touch the Royal hand.

There is a certain attraction and charm, especially since the time of Princess Diana, that draws in our interest of the Royal family. For monarchist and non-monarchist alike, that spark has been renewed again since the Royal Wedding.  Planners have been on their toes trying to emulate the Royal “Princess” weddings for their clients, and for the British Monarch to be celebrating another significant milestone this weekend, the demand for High Tea parties will be increasing as well.

Across the world, planners will be planning commemorative events of their own! In fact, our Canadian government has encouraged citizens nationwide to plan celebrations in their area “investing $7.5 million to increase public awareness and encourage Canadians from coast to coast to coast to organize celebrations at the local level”  source: Canada International. That is a lot of Tea Parties!!

In the meantime, take part of this milestone by attending local celebrations in your area.  Some wonderful commemorative celebrations to check out are:

If not partaking in any local events, create one of your own.  Have a tea party with friends and watch the celebrations-it’s the perfect time to wear your hat!
